Book Reviews from 'Get Your Paws on a Good Book' participants
The Isis Papers by Frances Cress Welsing: I absolutely loved this book and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in gaining a better understanding. This is powerful, yet sensitive subject racism/white supremecy.
Whatever Happened to Janie by Caroline Cooney: The final book in 'The Face on the Milk Carton' series. A great ending to the lives of both families affected by this kidnapping. It shows how the children work through all of their emotional ties to Hannah.
The Indwelling by Tim LaHaye: riveting, expressive, informative. A great read.
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer: Interesting book about life in England with nice interactions betweeen the pilgrims so that one obtains a genuine understanding of their lives even though the text is written in Middle English.
The Mark: The beast rules the world by Tim LaHaye: fact filled wonder.
Founding Mothers by Cokie Roberts: History review giving smart, courageous women who helped create a new country and develop a unique government the credit they deserve.
The Secret On Ararat by Tim LaHaye: A great new series by the 'Left Behind' author. This book is about finding Noah's Ark. Exiting and interesting.
The Game Of Kings by Dorothy Dunnett: One of the best books I've ever read! Set in historical Scotland when Mary Queen of Scots is 4 years old. France's Crawford of Lymond as the fictional rogue/hero is willing to give his life to protect her and is so well written he seems every bit as real as the authentic entourage surrounding little Mary. Readers interested in languages will find lines in Spanish, French, and Old English as each chapter starts with stanzas ala Chaucer, regarding chess mates. Those into SCA or historical reenactments will love references to acutal battles and medieval weapons.
The Rising by Tim LaHaye: It was nice to go back in the lives of people I've gotten so close to. Fast read.
The Measure of a Lady by Deanne Gist: An excellant read. This was a great historical romance. It brought the California Gold Rush to life (through the eyes of women in 1848).
Dream of Freedom by Michael Phillips: A little slow to get started, but if you keep reading it gets better and better. This book is considered historical fiction and recounts events that are pre-Civil War. The parts about the Underground Railroad were especially intense and spell-binding. An excellant read.
Nightmares and Dreamscapes by Stephen King: not good at all. Hated it. Stephen King's worst.
Dark Harbor by Stuart Woods: good-fast reading.
Dark Assassin by Anne Perry: The latest book by a great mystery writer. I've enjoyed each and every one of Anne Perry's books.
Fodor's London (2006 ed) published by Fodor's: A great new travel book! Full of up-to-date information. For those with plenty of money, to those with a limited budget. A must read! You provide a wonderful travel section.
