Book Reviews from 'Get Your Paws on a Good Book' participants
The Hunt Club by John Lescroart: The second of J. Lescroart's book I've read. Very good. Intend to read more of his books.
Never Have Your Dog Stuffed by Alan Alda: A fine read, insightful, a view of schizophrenia from a child's view.
From Beirut to Jerusalem by Thomas Friedman: I need to quote Seymour Hersh, who said, 'If you're only going to read one book on the Middle East, this is it.' I concur. Tom Friedman was interviewed by Tim Russert on CNN (late July, 2006) and was brilliant, with pertinent info re: 'the troubles' in the Mid-East.
Big Russ and Me by Tim Russert: What a nostalgia-trip; to read about the life and times of Tim Russert's Dad! The Second World War is seen through a new set of eyes, as the senior Mr. Russert relates his experience in the Air Force. It's a great read.
Nervous by Zane: This was Zane at her best; this book was well written and put together with much thought. The main character will pull you in and so will her alter ego or egos! Nervous was very compelling and will have you waiting to see what happens next.
The Quilter's Daughter by Wanda Brunstetter: I enjoy reading about Amish people. This book transports you to a simple life, though sometimes the Amish have just as many problems and worries as everyone else.
Incriminating Evidence by Sheldon Siegel: Great book, suspense all through. Now I have to read the first one.
Europa Conspiracy by Tim LaHaye: This is the 3rd book in the 'Babylon Rising' series. It's suspenseful and exciting, as Michael Murphy explores for another biblical artifact. The ending leaves you hanging for the next book. I hope it comes out soon.
Hidden Life of Otto Frank: by Carol Ann Lee: Yes, this book is a biography of Anne Frank's father. The black-and-white photos are a great addition to Lee's work. Miep Gries was the 'righteous gentile' who helped the annex-family (and others). Otto Frank lived 1889-1980, and saw most of the 20th century, with its wars, Anti-Semitism, and Holocaust.
Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin: Excellant book! The author covers the men who Lincoln ran against to get the Republican nomination for president in 1860. Lincoln takes these men he ran against and nominates them for cabinet positions. Many thought him a back country lawyer and buffoon until they met him and listened to him. Lincoln was a very shrewd politician and probably the man of the century.
700 Sundays by Billy Crystal: Great Book.
Tied to the Track by Rosina Lippi: Very interesting book regarding southern intolerance.
