News from Investigate a Good Book: Hackley Public Library's Summer Reading Club for Grownups

Investigate a Good Book is pleased to announce that Laura Ecker and two shy people, who don't want their names mentioned, won prizes this morning. They will get a chance to pull a prize out of a hat when they next come into the library.

The adult summer reading program runs through August, with weekly Monday morning drawings. To sign up for the program call (231-722-7276) or go into the Library and ask to sign up for the Adult Summer Reading Program. For each book you read, or listen to, you can put your name in the weekly drawing.

Book Reviews from Summer Reading Participants

The Onion Field by Joseph Wambaugh: Wambaugh's first nonfiction book, an account of a 1967 murder of an LAPD detective and the ensuing 7+ years of insanity of the California Judicial System and its eventual repeal of capital punishment in 1970.

Lines and Shadows by Joseph Wambaugh: Wonderful, witty, true story of an experiment in covert border control to protect illegal aliens from robbers, thieves, murderers, and rapists as only a cop can tell it.

Beds and Borders by Richard Bird: Great ideas for putting in flower beds in all light situations and styles. Lengthy list of plant nurseries in the back is given if you have trouble tracking down plants. They suggest using local sources.

The Summerhouse by Jude Deveraux: Story of three women who met on their 21st birthdays, and 19 years later are meeting for a weekend to celebrate turning 40. None has the life she wished for, and they are all given the opportunity to go back in time to change things.

The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger: I've heard so many great things about this book, so it surprises me that I am not impressed. There are some funny parts, but the writing goes on forever. Readers are kept waiting for the story.
