Book Reviews from Investigate A Good Book participants Summer's Child by Luanne Rice: Very good book--a little difficult to get into at the beginning, but very much worth it. Preacher's Daughter by Beverly Lewis: First book in a series of three. Great story of a young woman's struggles growing up in an Amish community that does not approve of her love of painting. Also has a subplot involving a child's kidnapping. Dirty Game by Shannon Holmes: Destiny was determined to make her life better for her father and herself. She turns to the wrong man who leads her in the wrong direction. This book is well-written and shows how the love of money can destroy our lives. Sovereign by C. J. Sansom: This was the first book I have read by this author. It is a great combination of mystery and English history. Good read for both mystery and history fans. Mommy's Angel by Miasha: This book started off very boring, but as I started reading it, it became more interesting. Angel had a struggle between life and her family, but at the end she was determined to take her life to another level. Isaac Jogues: Missioner and Martyr by Martin Scott: I got this book on loan from Grand Rapids Main Library. It tells the inspiring, sometimes gut-wrenching, true story of Jogues' life and death as a missionary to the Huron and Iroquois in 17th century North America. A wonderful book, one that lives with you after you've read it, and an incredibly saintly man! Shape Shifter by Tony Hillerman: Mr. Hillerman is his usual best. I enjoyed this book because it was more about Det. Joe Leaphorn and just a little about Jim Chee. If you are a Hillerman fan, this book is a must! McKettrick's Luck by Linda Lael Miller: Great! loved the characters, can't wait for next book in series. McKettrick's Pride by Linda Lael Miller: Great! Follows great with McKettrick's Luck. Can't wait for the final book. Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt: Awesome! This is the second time reading this memoir. Frank uses humor to relay his experiences growing up in a poor Irish Catholic family in Ireland. I laughed out loud several times. Helps keep things in perspective. Pomegranate Soup by Marsha Mehran: Wonderful characters with good background info. The setting is charmingly brought to life. Hunter's Moon by Cathy Champ and C. T. Adams: Pretty good Ipod Fully Loaded by Andy Ihnatko: Excellant book! Great explanations for tricky procedures. Humorous and thorough! 8:54:47 AM
