Hiding behind a stolen identity... in jail
The BBC is carrying a story on a man who stole the identity of a baby that died in 1963, and has now been jailed for fraud. Not a big deal in itself, but he's been living under this assumed identity for 20 years, and refuses to disclose his real name. Police (probably rightly) think that he's got something more serious to hide, otherwise why does he refuse to reveal who he actually is?
Sooner or later someone is going to say that this justifies the case for a National ID Card, but of course this individual would have amassed sufficient false credentials to qualify for a legitimate card. I wonder how many other people are wandering around with similar IDs that will be legitimised by the new scheme?
