Strategic Plans
We have been preparing our strategic
plan for WorldVenture. Yes, that's right, if you didn't know our
mission has a new name. It's actually a good change. Anyway, back to
the strategic plans. There are some gurus who suggest that strategic
planning is obsolete since the world is changing too rapidly for any
plan to come to fruition. They say to focus on core competencies that
will help you survive and thrive in a world full of chaotic change. My
soul resonates in agreement with this line of reasoning. Unfortunately
my superiors haven't embraced "chaos theory" yet, so we have been
working on our plans. I recently received a collegue's plans: page
after page of statistics and projected goals for every aspect of their
ministry. It was impressive and very depressing. If you gave me 10
years I could not produce a document like that. They had detailed
projections for the coming 7 years, complete with tables and bar
graphs. My 7 year projection is more biblical. I'm following Joseph's
model: "there will be 7 big fat cows, followed by 7 lean and mean
ones". Simple and straight to the point. Now if I only knew what
was coming. Planning for the future would be a lot easier if I, like
Joseph, knew what the future held in store.
