Luis Palau Says Chinese Churches Should Register Themselves. BEIJING - Luis Palau, founder of Luis Palau Association, says there is more freedom in China than people have anticipated. He said that churches are not underground, just unregistered.

"What excites me is that more Chinese people are coming to faith. ... [The Christian Post RSS Feed]

Dr. Palau's statement that churches are not underground, just unregistered is by and large true. One of our co-workers here in Hong Kong is going to Fujian province next month to conduct an evangelism meeting in an "unregistered church". They have a lot of freedom there and especially at Christmas there will be many outreach events. Chinese from Hong Kong are welcome to come and help, but foreigners are not (unless you are famous like Luis Palau).

Hunger kills 6 million children a year

I know you have a lot on your plate (wrong metaphor to use at Thanksgiving time). I know you are busy. Disasters today seem to come one after another, it is overwhelming! Most of the people displaced by the tsunami do not yet have homes or jobs. People from New Orleans are scattered all over the country - trying to put their lives back together. In Pakistan and Kashmir  people are hoping for enough food, blankets, warm clothes and shelter to get through a long and harsh winter. I'm sure I've missed a few disasters, and now the UN says that six million children a year die of hunger! Can you believe it? Just tonight, at the dinner table - no kidding - Ione was telling Ethan that there are children who don't have anything to eat. Don't worry - it wasn't the old "you clean your plate - there are children starving in Africa" routine.

All this makes me wonder - have we done enough? Your family and my family will probably spend a pretty good chunk of change on Christmas in one month. Why not send a gift to some hungry kids? If you shop online, you can also donate online to Compassion International, World Vision, Samaritan's Purse, or any other charity of your choice. $50 dollars can make a big difference in a child's life and these organizations will make sure the money gets where it is needed. Don't let the flood of disasters overwhelm you. Jesus said that we have to keep working while there is daylight. The night is coming. Don't get weary! Keep helping.

Do you want to know more? Here is the BBC report on hunger and children.
"Nearly six million children die each year as a result of hunger or malnutrition, a UN agency has warned. International targets for reducing world hunger and disease may not be met, the Food and Agriculture Organisation says in a new report." Read the whole article here.

Gotta go! I'm going to make a donation online.
