It may not be fashionable, or even P.C., but I think Kathy's on to something:

We can't leave innovation up to our users. "The world never needed Beethoven's Fifth Symphony until he created it. Now we could not live without it." -- Louis I. Kahn. In this Web 2.0-ish world we're supposed to be all about the users being in control. . .  [Creating Passionate Users]

Seriously, I'm not sure that I want "users" to define the taxonomy for me. They might give me some clues as to something they find important that I might miss, but otherwise it's just being lazy.

Yep, I learned this one conceptually the first time I reset the resolution on an image and the danged thing got bigger; but the mechanics still elude me. Guess I'm still math-challenged. Anyway, thanks to Darren for the handy linkage:

What the Heck Does 300 DPI Really Mean?. . . The first is called The Myth of DPI, and covers the basics and the common mistake. . . And here[base ']s the second, on what the print shop really wants. . . [DarrenBarefoot.com]
