Fur Rendezvous

The Fur Rendezvous seems to have been successfully revived--it had virtually died. This year it has consisted of one week and two weekends of activities which lead into the Iditarod this Saturday. The Fur Rondy usual highlight has been the World Championship Sled Dog Races. The new, unusual highlight this year was the Running of the Reindeer.

My activity this year was the coronation of the King and Queen Regent. They are always members of the Pioneers of Alaska (have lived in Alaska for at least 30 years---usual age of 65 and 70). A good friend of mine is on the Fur Rondy board and needed to make an appearance so I went with her. The Pioneers of Alaska put on a classy event. The current and past Queen Regents were in long evening gowns and the King Regents were in tux. The choosing and the crowning of the Alaska King and Queen Regents is an important event for the organization.

Ted Stevens (Alaska's U.S. Senator sugar daddy) was there; goodness he looks old, tottery, and not well when seen up close and "in the flesh"---after all he is 84. Even I agree that it is time for a new Republican Senator from Alaska.
