Inter counties wins for Dan King and Johanna Jackson

Dan King won the CAU Inter-counties T&F 3000m walk in championship Record time, and Johanna Jackson was only 14 seconds or so off Vicky Lupton's CBP - while I got a good view of the race from lane 2 (scoring zip for Surrey).

So I left the lens at home but, as Johanna waited for the medal ceremony someone next to me was snapping using their Sony Ericsson T610 mobile phone, just like the one in my pocket...

Scottish Walker To Represent Balearic Island In Spanish Under 17 Championship, plus English girls doing rather well too

Spanish ultrawalker and historian Bernardo José Mora e-mailed to report that Nikola Jayne Mason (born in Inverness, 1988), who lives in Majorca, will represent Balearic Island Regional Team in the Spanish Under 17 Championships next weekend in Valladolid.

'Nikola has PRs of 27:28 and 57:40. She will compete in the 5.000 m track walk. She is the current 10 km U-17 Balearic Champion. Her club is Standingpalma.com.'

Keen eyed readers of Race walking Record will have seen her named mentioned. Another UK walker competing regualrly oversees is Nicole Lacey, and her sister Yvonne, this time in Alsace, France.

Nicole recently won the Alsace 10km and on Saturday at Rennes both sisters won races at the Critérium Nationaux de Printemps de Marche

Speaking of books...

I'd recommend Athletics 2005 by Peter Matthews.

It claims to be the Wisden of Athletics - and is a mine of information. Inducted into the Hall of Fame this year is Robert Korzeniowski and a brief biography and photo from the Olympics 50km is included.

Peter Matthews was commentating during the Inter-counties today, and naturally had facts and figures at his fingertips during the race. I wonder where he gets much of it from.....?

Superambers!

Ray Kuhles, coach who coached the US junior team that came to Coventry University track two years ago, has published a book of inspirational quotes entitled Superambers.

Amber Antonia appears too modest to mention (but confirmned to me) that the book was named after her, and was inspired by the inspirational daily quotes that Ray collected to motivate Amber, and no doubt other athletes.

Amber reports her training is going well. Her next race is the US National 10K at Niagara Falls New York which she is hoping to be 'a good tune up for the National 20K and our world champs qualifier'.
