JY's Weblog

 jeudi 7 février 2002

Eh, I just found this on the Events page of Radio Userland: "Notified Weblogs.Com that JY's weblog updated. And it said in response -- Thanks for the ping, however we can only accept one ping every five minutes. It's cool that you're updating so often, however, if I may be so bold as to offer some advice -- take a break, you'll enjoy life more".

Something (rare) that starts to bother me on macOS X: the way it handles accented characters. I worked with accented characters with no problem under linuxPPC. I transfered the files (tarred and zipped) to MacOS X. Now when I open these Perl scripts, all accents are turned into crap. Please someone explains me how MacOS X handles extended ascii!

Because I had to write it somewhere (You can eat it, Mr Google!):
UNIX2DOS: perl -pi -e 's/$/015/' filename
DOS2UNIX: perl -pi -e 's/015$//' filename

Introduction to Make

French interview with Eric Brousseau, Professor of economics (Google translation): "Internet rests on open standards which guarantee its properties of opening and flexibility. It is necessary thus to be vigilant so that certain evolutions, as the capture of standards by software publishers or operators of telecommunications, do not penalize its development or imply harmful effects." (Google translation..)
