Continued updates to tool documentation:
- Added text to Multiple Directories page mentioning that all directories are regenerated every time
- Added text to the Installation page and the Troubleshooting page mentioning that upstreaming needs to be turned on for the Directory Tool to work.
- Added a Adding a Link page to describe how to add a navigation link to a user directory, and linked to it from the Directory Tool home page. Had to figure out how to display tags as text, needed to use the codes for special characters to display greater-than and less-than symbols.
- Performed a test where I deleted sampledirectory.opml from the mydirs directory, then did the "Generate new directory" commmand. The two remaining directories were regenerated, and the top level directory did not have an entry any more. Checked the files on my server, saw that the OPML Resources directory was still there. I think this is an acceptable solution for now, can add deletion of files in the next release.
- Added a Deleting a directory page with instructions for deleting individual directories from the top level directory page, and linked it from the Directory Tool home page.
I have now completed all of the tool and documentation updates from my testing of the Directory Tool as described on October 1st. Here are the things that I think need to be done before performing a release of the Directory Tool:
- Move the current tool to a release directory
- Delete the data elements as described in previous posts
- Remove the version identifier from the directory script and revise the comments at the top of the script
- Revise the call to the directory script in the menu item script to match the script name
- Update the version information to 0.8
- Repeat the test plan again to make sure that the release version of the tool still works
Once the above steps are done, I will move forward with creating the first weblog site (knowledgeorama.com).
