I read a touching letter to the editor in today's Dallas Morning News. DFW locals will appreciate it more. The Dallas area has lost two influential people in the past month: Mary Kay Ash and Harvey Martin. Whoever thought a white woman and a black man would have a connect. Apparently, they do and here's the letter:

"There is an irony in Harvey Martin and Mary Kay Ash dying so close together. They were more linked than many realize.

Harvey's mother used to clean the small offices at night in the then-young Mary Kay Co. headquarters on Carpenter Freeway. Mary Kay was a hard-working, late-into-the-night-type person and regularly visited with Harvey's mother and her young son, Harvey, whom she brought with her rather than have him home alone.

When the Mary Kay Co. first went to sell stock, Mary Kay suggested her cleaning lady ought to buy some since it might become valuable. Harvey's mother said there was no money to do that. The story goes that Mary Kay decided to add some stock with the paycheck so that her evening friend might have some.

It is said that that stock is what got Harvey into college. The rest is history.

Best football news all year. It is a milestone day for Emmitt who surpasses 16,000 career rushing yards as Cowboys upset 49ers 27-21. The Niners are one of my two favorite teams I love seeing the Cowboys beat. The other being the 'Skins. [USA Today : Front Page]
