Microsoft does provide a multi-PC download version of the Windows XP SP2 update. 270 megabytes. If you have many computers, this is a better way to upgrade systems than using automatic upgrade and using up hundreds of megabytes of data bandwidth over your Internet service provider. Oddly, Microsoft does not promote this to home users. This version is intended for network IT managers. Odd are that if you have 3 or more computers to update, this is a reasonable approach to managing the download bandwidth.

Microsoft has discovered that their current approach may overwhelm available download bandwidth (duh? hello?) and is now offering other alternatives to manage this massive upgrade.
