Using Terror Oh, I forgot to mention, that on the show below, one of the guests Dr. Eric Voth repeatedly invoked the "Drug users are engaging in terrorism." Bullshit, that our fearless leader The WB (Yes, the President-for-now), has been having his administration run.

First off, I think it's incredibly morally corrupt for someone to actually espouse this bullshit.

Secondly, it's overdone.

Thirdly, it's pretty pointless, after all, the terrorists made money off the Stock Market too.... Not to mention that criminals don't deal in drugs because it's a secret plot to destroy our morals, they do it because it's easy money. Hell, start making Bibles illegal, and drugs legal, and you'd a pretty damned quick shift in professions.

Drug Wars The Connection today covered the Drug Wars [Listen using Sucky Real Player] "It was in the days after Prohibition when marijuana was outlawed in America. 1937 to be precise. Since that time, all the states of the union have wrestled with the right mix of laws and sanctions to prevent and to punish drug use and abuse. Draconian laws generally won the day, low thresholds and harsh sentences." [The Connection]

Listened to part of the show, had the usual weird mix of callers that this subject seems to bring out of the woodwork. A couple of observations;

A: Drug legalization folks (I've only generally heard Marijuana spokescritters), need to pick those speakers carefully. The number of folks from NORML who I've heard who use "uhh" excessively in their speech, is just totally fucking hysterical. I know it's a standard human "processing' noise, but it's just something they should be a bit over-conscious about. :)

B: This is a social issue, not a legal one. While there will be legal moves against it, it ain't gonna be legislated away, by simply making it illegal.

C: The arguments for making marijuana a "controlled" substance but not, say tobacco and alcohol are pretty arbitrary. Other than the fact that possession of a case of Molson's generally doesn't end your ass up in jail.

D: The "Drugs" that these folks spend their time chasing are always the "safe" ones. G'wan, check and see how many kids involved in any of the "School Massacree"-type incidents of the past five years were on psychotropic drugs. When a "Coke Fiend" blows away a liquor store clerk, it's a "Drug Crime", but when a kid on psychotropics goes off an a High School, it's an "Unexplained Tragedy". Yeah.

Personally, I think the pendulum is swinging against the Pro-pot folks. Cigarettes are on their way down, alcohol will likely be next, they will be "socialized" out of existence.

I'm of a mixed mind about it. Myself, I'm basically a "Teatotaller" and have always been, pretty much, but I basically think I should be allowed to do any damned thing I want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. So should everyone else.

I'm also concerned where it stops, I mean...I drink Pepsi....:)

*static of Police Radio*

"Ok, we got another one of those damned Pepsi-heads down here."

*Insert "Cops" theme*

Zoe's friend got a phone call about three months ago from her sister, inviting her to a hospital on the 12th of April to attend the birth of her daughter, and regretting that she'd have to get back her with an approximate time. On the 3rd of April she got another phone call, this time to let her know what time to rock up.

I had no idea birth was getting so... specific. As Zoe says, it kinda takes the fun out of it.

[Deadly Bloody Serious]

Only if you are having the labor "induced". There're a fair number of people who think that induced labor is a Bad Idea. I have no opinion other than "why?" We did it the flat out way; as the last bars of "The Simpsons" end theme sounded, J looked at me and said, "hey, I think my water broke".

Way more fun that way. :)

Not to mention that we drove to the Birth Center on the front wave of a nasty winter storm, WAY more fun and cool. (I'm serious)
