Brent's site is going to the birds.

While we are talking of birds, I had a flock of bushtits outside my window this afternoon.

Earlier in the day, I had a kinglet or verio in the hybiscus. This is a tough time for birders. Everyone is moving quickly on to greener pastures.

Brent, I hope you see my birds in a week or two.

I want to find Dinosaurs in my backyard.

I want to know that something exciting happened here.

How do you say 4.6 billion years is recorded behind your house, when you can't see it.

The history of the world is sitting in our backyards. Everyone has a piece of it. But most of it is missing.

My new friend in northern Wisconsin doesn't know it, but dinosaurs walked in her backyard. There is no record of it. The rocks that record the dinosaurs were stripped away by the last glaciers or the rivers before them.

How do I let her know that yes, something exciting happened here.

Life happened here.

There is nothing more exciting than that.

The Geologic Time Scale is the most popular website that I have ever done. I put it together for a class that I taught at San Francisco State in the spring of 1998. I wrote the site and forgot about it.

A couple of years later, I was shocked to discover that it was generating hundreds of hits per day. Even though I have done very little to the site, it still generates hundreds of hits per month.

Occasionally, I get suggestions for links or requests for information. Just this morning, I received this:

Can you tell me how long it takes wood to petrify? I found a petrified wooden log about 10 inches long by 6 inches wide. I'm wondering its age? Is if of any value??

Did dinasours ever walk the land in northern Wisconsin, near the Hayward area??

I would really appreciate your input.
Got to love the web.
