       On Tomorrow's Vote
The Nation Endorses Ballot Measures to Enfranchise the People. Woot, that's a partisan headline. :)
The Nation has endorsements for measures to improve elections. If you're in California, I encourage you to consider Proposition 52, which would allow citizens to register and vote on Election Day. [More Like This WebLog]
I'm sorry, but I'm not going to do that. Voting takes time. It is not a last second decision. It requires thought. We don't need more voters, we need more thinking voters. So on this measure, I am going to go with my long standing position of voting against state initiatives.
I will be voting against Prop 52.
BTW, the recorded phone message from Martin Sheen, supporting Prop 52, helped in my decision.

       New uses for old Macs
X10 Home Automation with heyu and older Macs. Chuck Shotton (of MacHTTP and WebSTAR fame) on getting home automation running with OS X on older PowerMacs. [ranchero.com]
Just the information that I need to keep my 8500 in service. It currently runs our Manila hosting. But it was destined for the pasture once the new Xserve box was up and running. Now I can be able to get more years out of it.

       Our new server
Last Friday, I installed our new Xserve box at a local co-lo facility. It will be powering ES Designs and our Manila and Apache hosting. During the installation, a co-worker commented on a nice design feature. I replied, "Yeah, it's a Mac."

       Ok, I am impressed
I am listening to the Clockwork Orange soundtrack, burning a CD, checking email, searching for extraterrestrial intelligence, running a couple of other background apps, and typing this note. All on my Mac without a hitch or glitch.
Got to go, there's an email.
