Survey: "Is Osama bin Laden alive?" [Scripting News]
The problem with this is that it doesn't matter. Osama bin Laden may be dead or alive. But his concepts are alive. Osama bin Laden will live as long as we don't have a body.
Even after his death, Osama bin Laden will direct people to act against the "tyrany" of the west. Our policies and actions will not stop this, unless we recognize the right for people to exist and express their views. We will be hobbled by terrorism for as long as people do not feel that they have a voice in governance.

AP: "Felipe Alou was hired Wednesday to manage the National League champion San Francisco Giants, returning to the team he played for in the 1950s and '60s." [Scripting News]
Bittersweet news. Dusty should have been able to manage the Giants to a World Series win. He earned it and deserved it. Bringing in an old Giant to replace Dusty is a good step, but we need to see how this plays next spring.

Oil Spills Leave Lasting Mark [Scientific American]
An interesting note in Scientific American discussing an article in the journal Environmental Science and Technology. The findings are in line with experimental data that my father published in 1984 in "Marine Environmental Research". Once oil gets buried, it persists in the sediment and acts as a barrier to burrowing organisms.
