This was generally expected after this year's abysmal performance. Unfortunately, it doesn't portend a return to winning ways. The problem isn't the coach or GM, it is the owner.
The 49ers won five championships from 1981-94, but since [John] York and his wife took over the team in 1999, they've had just two winning seasons and won just one playoff game.
The owners know nothing of football and apparently don't care that they have humiliated one of the finest football franchises. This caps a thoroughly rotten fall for Bay Area sports. Eddie, come back, we miss you.
