Twenty
years ago today, I returned from my second backpacking trip into the
Grand Canyon. Within a few days of my return, I had signed up for
another trip into the Canyon, a month long rafting trip to survey sand
bars along the river.
If you are a sedimentologist/stratigrapher, a trip down the Grand Canyon is a pilgrimage to the holy lands.
Once in the Canyon, you understand the age of the Earth, you see the processes that formed it, and you see life evolve.
It is a humbling experience.
