all good things

What is it about Apple products?

I just finished getting ready to give my TiBook back.  I had it on extended loan from a friend, and he just asked for it back.  I had it for about a year and a half, and it didn't cost me anything, so I don't really have anything I can complain about.  It just reminds me that of all the computers I've owned, it's always Apple products that I get emotionally attached to.

My parents had an Apple 2 plus that I learned to program on. (Well, actually I learned to program on a TRS-80 at the Radio Shack in the next town over, but that was never my computer)  That was when I entered full-blown nerd hood.  I could type for hours on that machine.  Some things never change.

In college I had an Apple 2e that my parents gave me for my 19th birthday.  I used it all the way through college, and it's still sitting in my garage.

Right before I left Microsoft, I bought a Quadra 840AV.  I loved that machine.  It was one of the first machines that could do video out of the box.  I had my first home internet connection on that box.  I met my wife through that box.

My first laptop was a Powerbook 180.  It died after getting destroyed on an international flight.  But until then, I dragged that thing everywhere.

You know, I've done more programming on Intel boxes than on Macs, but I never felt that connected to any of the Intel boxes.  They were always somewhat interchangeable.  Always just commodities.

But my Apples always seemed to inspire loyalty.

Now I just have to figure out how I'm going to get another one.
