You know what NASA's entire budget is? $15B. $3.9B of that is for Shuttle maintenance and paying for launches.

I'd also heard that the coming Iraq conflict will cost at least $100B. Imagine what NASA could do with $100B. Yeah, they'd make mistakes, and they do some things wrong, but learning what not to do is just as valuable, if not more valuable than getting things right the first time.

If going into a budget deficit is inevitable, if we have to spend money that we don't have, I'd rather spend the money pushing the frontier of human knowledge up and out, rather then watching GPS guided bombs blow up buildings in a highly precise manner.

Let's invest the money in something other than punitive pursuits.
