the hazards of the referer page I've been watching my referer page, just to see what people are looking for when they get to me. By far the most comman way people get to me is a google search for "Python IDE," whch gets a hit on the work I did last year to make it so that you can write Python code using Radio. But today, the referer that was on the top of the list was this article from the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/01/nyregion/01COUR.html No where on that page is a link to me, so why the heck would that page show up in my referer list? Not just once, but 3 times?

geeky conventions I was pleasantly surprised with the Buffy/Angel stars that came to the convention. They were still pretty amazed and happy at their own good fortune (even though Buffy ends this season), and more than happy to interact with fans. James Marsters, the Modesto boy that plays Spike on Buffy was a real surprise. I'd heard rumors that he was kind of stuck up, but they turned out to be completely unfounded. He was gracious and funny, and worked actively to engage people in the autograph line. Do you realize how hard it is to be engaging in an autograph line? Can you imagine trying to be as genuine and engaging with the 500th person as you were with the first? But he was. I didn't really have much to say at first, but he struck up a quick conversation with me, shook my hand, and seemed very real. I was impressed. They also had the actors who played Lorne from Angel and Clem from Buffy, both roles involving heavy makeup (with latex and strange colors). I enjoy these the most, because when you first see them, you don't recognize them. But when they start talking, you notice the little things, like the mannerisms, the voice, and the general shape of the face, that sort of thing.
I was ready for the whole thing to be slightly off-putting, but instead
it was a lot of fun. And the contrast between the crowd that was there
for Star Trek and the crowd there for Buffy/Angel was funny. Goth
chicks and Starfleet uniforms. I should have taken more pictures. |
