silence Sorry I've been quiet the past few days. I haven't released MailEdit 1.0.2 yet because I've been working with a user to sort out some strange behavior, and I can't be sure yet that it's not my code. In the meantime, I've taken up with a new mistress. Last time I took up with Cocoa, I then almost immediately segued back into SmallTalk. That passed, for various reasons. But now that I own my own Mac (I could never get completely into the loaned PowerBook, I always suspected -- with good reason -- that it could disappear at any time), I'm back into Cocoa again. It has a well designed object library. So far it's been easy to do what I want to do, which isn't much, mind you. I'm busy implementing the suite of programs that I always write the first time I start playing with a new environment -- there's the typical "Hello World" application, the "play with the GUI" application, and then the "slightly non-trivial but still easy" application that you write to prove you know the enviroment. My personal favorite of the last sort is Conway's Game of Life. Cellular automata are cool. I love watching the cells pulsate with areas of chaos, working their way to a steady state (or complete annihilation). I don't know why the Project Builder / Interface Builder combo hasn't caught on elsewhere. It's a great way to put together a program, and gets rid of a lot of the artificial stuff you used to have to do to make a GUI interface work with your code.
As soon as I can sort out what's going on with MailEdit, I'll release
1.0.2, and then it'll probably stay static for a while, at least until
someone proposes some feature that I can't live without. |
