vacation

One of the interesting things about working for a bank is that all employees are mandated to take seven consecutive days off per year, where they can have no contact with the workplace.

Next week is my "no-contact" week.

They take it very seriously -- managers are asked by their managers to provide proof that all of their employees have either taken or at least scheduled the no-contact week.

There are other interesting aspects, like we get ALL of the federal holidays off. I hadn't ever had a holiday on Columbus Day until I went to work for a bank. The other side of that is that the day AFTER Thanksgiving is a day that we do not get off, unless you take a vacation day or a sick day. There's a federal regulation that says that banks can't be closed for more than three consecutive days -- it's a holdover from the Depression and has to do with funds being made available.

It's interesting working for a bank sometimes.
