wow -- this has got to lead to something cool

This is a very cool advance.

Fibers that are smaller than the wavelengths of light that they carry. Because the light cannot travel inside the fiber (wrap your mind around THAT... Something too small to carry light), it wraps around the fiber.

Wraps AROUND the fiber. The idea of light clinging to a surface just blows my mind. I'd like to understand the physics behind that.
