eventful

Eventful weekend. Of the things that have happened, the one I enjoy the most is the arrival of GarageBand. Playing with GarageBand, and the discovery of MidiKeys, has almost taken my mind off of the fact that I'm paying to have a sump pump installed tomorrow morning.

That's a good thing, I suppose, if it means that water will stop coming into my basement. I live on a hill, which is basically solid rock covered with glacial till, so the water flows down the hill in the narrow gap between the surface and the bedrock. My downhill neighbor has built a retaining wall with grossly inadequate drainage, so now the water backs up into my yard. That doesn't completely explain the water in the basement, but it certainly doesn't improve the matter much.

So tomorrow they are jackhammering holes into my slab and putting in a sump pump. Should be a fun day at home.

Took a break from cleaning up the basement (ripping out carpet and mopping up water) to see Lost In Translation. Everybody I've heard talking about the movie loved it. And they're right. It's a great movie. Bill Murray, especially at the end, does a superb job in this movie.

Back to mopping up water and making music...
