Skype for the Mac! Finally! Skype (beta) is out for the Mac! I have been using Skype on my XP laptop and finding the voice quality variable (one time it was better than phone, the other it was worse than cellular). With the Mac version out now, I should be able to use it when I really need it - on the road. I have resisted the temptation to travel with more than one laptop so far and it is likely that I will continue to do so now that I have a Skype client for my 12". (thanks to cogdogblog for the tip - it is always great to talk to Alan and now I have another reason to do so). FYI: Skype is a program that permits voice 'phone calls' over the internet (VOIP). It would have come in very handy in Europe (I am sad to report that it was a costly frustrating exercise figuring out how to use Dutch phones this summer). Mac Users may be wonder why make a fuss about Skype since OS X includes the excellent iChat. iChat + iSight is offers excellent voice and video over IP. However, 'Skype Out' allows users to connect to a normal phone anywhere in the world (for a small fee). 12:15:15 AM | # | | trackback []
