Tuesday, July 5, 2005Ecto Fan once again A couple of my favourite Mac blogging applications are MarsEdit and Ecto (I own copies of both). When it comes to features and capabilites, these two programs seem to play leapfrog regularly. With its latest release, I think Ecto is ahead (for once). This post was written in Ecto. Ecto has all of the basics for publishing and integrates nicely with iPhoto, iTunes and Amazon. Preview, trackback and wordcount are all included and the program has worked well with all the blogging environments that I play with (Radio Userland, Blogger, Moveable Type and Drupal). For me the clincher is the ability to 'tag' posts. I have gotten used to tagging everything - being trained in Flickr and delicious. [Tagging has been described by Alexandra Samuel, popularized by Clay Shirky and defined by Thomas Vander Wal]. I love that I can assign tags and categories to my weblog posts in Ecto. Tagging matches the way I want to work by allowing me to be disorganized as long as I have good searches. For now, Ecto takes its place amongst my Favourite Mac Applications.
