« DevCon Day 2 »
The DevCon is over now. Lots of good stuff today, including a cool talk by Peter Drayton on SOAP over Jabber. Chris and Tim are talking about having another DevCon in about 6 months, which makes sense given the rate at which things are progressing/changing. Don invited me to speak at the next one, and I've agreed. Should be fun!
« At the DevCon »
I'm at the Web Services DevCon. I missed the first first 2/3 of the first day due to travel problems (snow in NH on Wed. night), but better late then never. Sam, Keith, Simon, Don, and Tim are here, among many others. Portland seems like a nice place, especially the greenness (from my perspective at the end of an northeastern winter) .
I enjoyed the talk by Steve Loughran from HP Labs (UK), who spoke about an imaging web service they've had up and running since last fall. It's refreshing to hear someone talk about this stuff in a real-world setting. Theoretical and/or forward-looking discussions of specs is great (as long as there's lots of code, which was definitely the norm at the DevCon), but it's important to balance the joy of coding with the elation of actually seeing it run (and dealing with the consequences).
