It's Like Déjà Vu All Over Again
"You could probably waste an entire day on the preceding links alone. But why take chances? We also give you Paul Snively..." — John Wiseman, lemonodor
This is a fascinating read, as much for what Jonathan modestly doesn't say as for what he does. I had no idea that Jonathan was a teen-ager when he wrote Dark Castle. I had occassion to peruse the Dark Castle source code in the late 80's, and it was a pure wonder of 68000 assembly language wizardry, done with the Lisa Workshop's assembler and taking excellent advantage of the macro facility to craft a kind of concurrent object system, with each actor in the system having its own thread and encapsulating its own actions/reactions based on the passage of time and events being generated by other objects. Then, of course, there was the sprite system. It was amazingly cool and exceedingly well-engineered. So it's really no surprise to me that Jonathan went on to do more amazing work that led to Flash.
