It's Like Déjà Vu All Over Again
"You could probably waste an entire day on the preceding links alone. But why take chances? We also give you Paul Snively..." — John Wiseman, lemonodor
No doubt the women who are speaking have valid points to make, and experiences with sexism that are real. But that does not justify shutting out an entire gender from the discussion. It's totally unfair and it's not even pragmatic. If you won't listen to others, if you won't even include us in the conversation, you shouldn't expect much in the way of help. [Scripting News]
The major problem that I see with the gender wars is that it's a power struggle (of course), but both sides end up treating it like it's a zero-sum game with perfect knowledge. It's not. So employing strategies appropriate to a good game of chess, e.g. castling, is a totally inappropriate response to the context. The game is a lot more like Steve Jackson's Games "Illuminati," where everyone's winning conditions are different, and sometimes the best way to win is to help the other guy win, but slowly. :-)
Even that's a poor analogy, but all the better ones involve higher math.
