Confucius. "The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin. When all is orderly, he does not forget that disorder may come. Thus his person is not endangered, and his States and all their clans are preserved." [Adam Curry: CurryDotCom]

Scientific American: Feature Article: Television Addiction: February 2002: "Grabbing Your Attention What is it about TV that has such a hold on us? In part, the attraction seems to spring from our biological "orienting response." First described by Ivan Pavlov in 1927, the orienting response is our instinctive visual or auditory reaction to any sudden or novel stimulus. It is part of our evolutionary heritage, a built-in sensitivity to movement and potential predatory threats."

who'd have thought that? <g> a body at rest stays at rest  .. they can't well say that it's regressive behaviour to suck on the tube.  browsing can be like that.. alpha-wave day dreaming link following.  bookmarking takes you out of that.. and link/diary building is quite more constructive.  so there. more obviousness :)
