New Scientist  Gifted few make order out of chaos: Some people have a special gift for predicting the twists and turns of chaotic systems like the weather and perhaps even financial markets, according to an Australian psychologist: "They have some sort of intuition. My guess is that they are sensitive to subtle non-linear structures like chaos."

Slashdot Ad Free: The Worst Subscription Service Ever Launched :: Dotcom Scoop :: Business news, commentary, rumors & gossip

having stopped reading slashdot daily almost 2 years ago i read their redesign as a signal that the end of slashdot has come. rather than adding value to the site, heavy users are now paying the most to see no ads. this is backwards.

slashdot could have spent the last two years doing something about liberating the wealth of insights trapped in their archives without a decent search, added ads to 'the mining zone' and made themselves useful to folks. instead they serve up a newbie knee jerk monetizer.

bad karma dudes.

Doctor of love: "Anthropologist Helen Fisher argues that romance, marriage and divorce follow predictable patterns as old as the species. She says men, for example, are inherently much more aggressive than women, and this innate aggressiveness is one of the reasons men tend to dominate the worlds of business and politics. She says that furthermore, despite their protestations, women prefer such dominant males as sex partners and long-term mates. These views haven't endeared her to traditional feminists."

A Site for Seeing Amazon Sales

"Philip Kaplan created Amazonscan.com to track sales of his book, F'd Companies, which will be published in April.  But Kaplan -- founder of Fuckedcompany.com and Postget.com -- won't be the first to use his system, as the two-month-old website is quickly becoming an obsession for authors, publishers, marketers and readers. Amazonscan.com is turning out to be a serious marketing tool."

breakthrough.
