Home users suffer web worm woe. The MSBlast worm seems to be catching out lots of home PC users. [BBC News | Business | World Edition]

Here is the quote that struck me dumb. The worm makes the machines slow way down or continually rebbot.

The company said users may just believe this is an everyday glitch and take no action.
The expectation level for home users is so low for Windows that a computer that reboots by itself every couple of minutes is just viewed as part of the price of having a computer! Windows is such a poorly written OS that it provides a huge number of holes to attack from. If you have a IT department, you have a hope of getting the most recent patch installed, and can deal with it if the patch causes its own problems. Home users do not have access to such support without havig to pay a lot of dough. I always recommend that if people always use a Mac at home because of this. Fixing a Mac is so much easier than a PC. Read about the 5 hours of hell Mark Pilgrim went through with XP. And this is someone who is knowledgeable about computers. No Thanks.  4:54:28 PM

US TV firm shuns Vivendi. French media giant Vivendi's hopes of getting its $14bn asking price for Universal studios fade as another US firm pulls out of bidding. [BBC News | Business | World Edition]

Maybe Apple will get involved for real. Then maybe they can hire lawyers who understand. [see below]  4:43:08 PM

mp3.com rejects Creative Commons.

Don't you hate when the people who should most "get it" TOTALLY DON'T GET IT!

We would love to help you offer Creative Commons license to your users — it’s free, and a great way to make clear the rights and restrictions artists would like to offer their fans.
Nothing replaces the legal protections provided by registering a copyright with the US Copyright Office--most certainly not your “free license.”

This email is formal notice for you to cease and desist from further contacting our artists through our web site to solicit for your product/services, which are not sanctioned by us.

Few corporate lawyers get anything at all. Many are simply boilerplate pushers. Read all of the article. Even I know that a license is not a copyright. You would think that some high-falutin' person with a law degree could parse a sentence properly. If this is the sort of legal talent the Media cartel has, they will fail much faster than I expected.  4:41:21 PM

Have it my way. Social Networking Software: Have it Your Way The greatest challenge for developers of Social Network Enablement software will be to allow each of us to portray our knowledge and our network(s) any way we want to represent them. Dave Pollard... [Knowledge Jolt with Jack]

Social software, or frankly any software tool, will only be rapidly adopted and used if it works the way the user wants it to. It needs to scratch an itch I have, not rub a spot that IT has decided is best for me.   4:20:26 PM
