Wild Geology!
Here's a really terrific exposition of current thinking on the geological history of the American Southwest. Excellent graphics, and a cogent text explanation. It's awesome to stop and ponder the time scales they're talking about here, from 1.7 GA (billions of years ago) to nearly the present. The Sierras are but a very recent development.
