The other day Mike posted a note about the new Roseanne Cash LP, with some links. I didn't comment then, but I've been listening to this thing a lot, too. I did listen to the Lucinda CD a couple times, and liked it, but it does get a little heavy. Roseanne's is a nice heartfelt piece of pop that's a lot of fun to hear.

THE CULT OF TIVO. Nice article by Warren St. John in this Sunday's NY Times on TIVO, appropriately entitled "Why TIVO Owners Can't Shut Up". It's true -- we can't. I admit it: I'm one of the converted, and I'll gladly spout superlatives at the drop of a hat. [The Volokh Conspiracy]
See, Blair, I'm not the only one.

String Processing with Perl. Perl has always been known for its text processing and
manipulation abilities. This article examines the Perl string handling API
in greater detail, explaining how you can use Perl's string functions to
(among other things) print and format strings, split and join string values,
alter string case, and perform regular expression searches. [Developer Shed]
Nice piece, recommended if you're curious. Towards the end, the examples get a ittle skimpy.
