My Theory About Dean's Demise: He Got Fewer Votes Than The Other Guys. Over the past ten days or so, there's been quite a bit of speculation in the blogosphere about the extent... [stevenberlinjohnson.com]
That's it in a nutshell. I've read a
lot of stuff about how the Clintons were behind Dean's fall, or the
press, or the leaders of the Democratic party. But Iowa and New
Hampshire are nothing if they're not retail; it's hard to imagine that
the citizens of these small states were swayed more by the press or the
Clintons than they were by the hours and hours of local advertising
Dean et. al. broadcast in these states. And all the candidates spent
weeks and weeks and weeks speaking, shaking hands, etc. in these
states. Whether it's for the best or not, Kerry got more votes than
anyone else in these states, and it was the people doing the voting
that made that happen.
