"America’s growing fear of litigation...". Top 5 Ridiculous Lawsuits of 2003A critical part of the role of judges is deciding who can sue for what, but these days anyone can sue for just about anything. [via Overlawyered < The Legal Reader] [jenett.radio]
The thing about this list is that it
doesn't give a full picture of the ridiulousness of some lawsuits. It
doesn't include what must certainly be the most laughable lawsuit of
the year: Fox's suit against Al Franken for using the "Fair and
Balanced" title of his book. That case was rightly laughed out of
court, and was wrong for so many reasons. Lists like this, and sites
like "overlawyered" focus on cases involving individuals, but generally
neglect the abuse of the legal system that comes from corporations or
even the government.
