Moon opens for business. A private US company has won permission to launch its own probe to the Moon next year. [BBC News | Front Page]
If this really happens it would be a huge step forward. I'm wary that NASA will find some way to interfere, though. And then there's this quote:
Winning permission took TransOrbital more than two years. To get federal blessing it had to prove the Trailblazer satellite would not contaminate the Moon with biological material, pollute the lunar surface or disturb previous landing sites.
Good grief. "Pollute the lunar surface," indeed!

Science Fact: Farscape Axed. The Sci-Fi Channel suddenly cancels the popular series Farscape, and fans are quick to launch a protest using -- egads! -- snail mail. By Michelle Delio. [Wired News]
I hadn't heard this before. It's a shame, since Farscape was the only good show the Sci-Fi Channel was producing. Most of their stuff is either really bad B-movies or tabloid garbage--they do show Stargate SG-1 now, but that was originally produced by Showtime (and maybe still is).
