PGP Corporation and Symantec to Deliver Integrated Email Security Solution for the Enterprise. PGP Corporation and Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the delivery of a combined enterprise secure-messaging and virus-scanning solution. PGP Corporation has integrated the Symantec AntiVirus™ Scan Engine into its PGP® Universal product line, giving enterprise customers comprehensive, network-based secure messaging.

Customers that purchase PGP Universal with an annual subscription of Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine will enjoy the benefits of a comprehensive email security solution where outgoing emails are scanned for viruses before they are encrypted and incoming emails are scanned immediately after decryption. PGP Universal will centrally manage both the Symantec and PGP products. [PGP Corporation]

Very interesting! I hadn't heard about this internally before I saw the press release, and I consider it an encouraging sign that Symantec is taking an interest in encryption.

The price of gold has fallen below $400/ounce. This is a good time to buy!

I've been looking more at "Skype" since learning of the PocketPC version last week, and it does seem very promising. I tried calling an automated echo service the makers provide, and the sound quality with a USB headset was noticeably better than a telephone, even though the company is located in Estonia.

Skype appears to be gaining popularity fast. It's only been out since last August, and as I write this there are over 150,000 users on line. I even found a CMS publisher that uses it to provide live tech support. The company is in Germany, which means that their customers can make a free call using Skype instead of having to pay through the nose for an international telephone call. I wonder how many other companies have thought of that?

No Chip in Arm, No Shot From Gun. A new chip that would be implanted into a gun owner's arm and matched up to a particular gun will make the gun inoperable for anyone else. The chipmaker says it will lead to greater gun safety, while the NRA and police departments are leery. [Wired News]

Of course this would make it possible for the government to track gun owners using the chip--which is no doubt the true goal. Fortunately I have plenty of perfectly good guns already, and in fact I prefer older guns and gun designs anyway.

The Meaning of Freedom. US troops beat a man to death with truncheons. He had the wrong picture in his car.... [LewRockwell.com Blog]

Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice the troops involved in this incident should all be facing life inprisonment for murder. I wouldn't bet on that happening, though.

More political deception/coercion from al Qaeda:  an offer of truce to Europe. [John Robb's Weblog]

The real question is whether the editorial opinion John Robb states as fact is in fact correct. Does al Qaeda really mean it, or not? Perhaps if the Spanish ever really do pull their troops out of Iraq we'll see.
