Chant.. After Matrix tonight, I restored balance by stopping by the Stanford Memorial Church for .."A 30-minute quiet, reflective service of chant sung by a variety of Stanford and local choirs. Held in the candlelit ambiance of Memorial Church. Sunday evenings at 9:30 p.m. Come and enjoy a place of peace and rest". As Neo said, "woh". That was very good. They're doing this every Sunday thru June 1.

Matrix Flicks at Stanford is showing the original Matrix tonight. hmm.. Sounds like a plan. Lots of hype around the new release. I always worry about over-hyped movies. They're usually disappointing. First one is a classic. afterwards: fun seeing this again. some memorable lines: Neo after getting "unplugged": "Why do my eyes hurt?" Morpheus: "You've never used them"
Morpheus: "Take the red pill, and I'll show you how deep the rabbit hole goes"
Little boy bending spoons: "The secret is in understanding the fundamental truth, that there is no spoon."
Morpheus: "Do you think that's air you're breathing?"
Question: did anyone else notice that the green computer rain that represents the Matrix is made up of backwards Japanese Katakana characters?

"Enterprise software should be as easy as Amazon.com" Mark Benioff, CEO of Salesforce.com spoke at Thought Leaders this week on the new technology & business models the web, networking, XML, SOAP, and interop have enabled. Somehow he makes it sound too easy. I think they've struggled to get where they are with lots of salespower. He feels they have an advantage over the Seibels and the Oracles because Salesforce.com started as a web product. He discusses the power of Apple's i-Tunes (which made $1 million in first week) and Amazon as a platform. I met an engineer at O'Reilly's Emerg Tech conf that was working on this new SOAP based shopping cart/merchandizing platform. Prediction: the ASP model will continue to grow.

Hiring and getting hired I've come across a couple of very good web logs that focus on human resources. BostonWorks HR blog has is a great place to see what's happening in the human resource world and find very practical advice. They had a link this week to a blog that focuses on Hiring Technical People. Read and heed. Also, highly recommeneded, check out the new book, How Would You Move Mt. Fuji, which gives us all the scoop on how Microsoft handles their interviews. All the "impossible" questions are discussed.
