Spitting On Politicians
Why do we spend so much time attacking the people we elect? What is it that makes us feel the need to denigrate them? It's not that I think they're Saints, few of us are. It's just that I tire of the constant flow of attack. How can we hope to attract the best and the brightest when all we do is spread tall tales, lies, rumors, and false stories.
What purpose does this all serve? I fear for the future. People seem to be thinking that they should get everything for free. Of the 20 most industrialized nations, we are the second least taxed [Japan is first]. Yet we seem to spend every waking moment trying to figure out how to lower our taxes. We have a road/transportation system that is in pathetic condition, and a school system full of underpaid teachers. Our prisons are full since we are busy imprisoning people, but not paying for them. What is it that we want?
I for one am proud to pay taxes, I think it takes a lot of guts and courage to run for office in this day and age. I feel that I have a moral obligation to assist others. I know that my taxes go for many things that I never use, just as others taxes go for things I use, and they don't. I expect the system to be flawed. Is their waste...yes. Are their crooks in office...yes [Bush and Cheney for example]. Let's attack them for real issues, not made up ones...mj
