Ashcroft...seeks expanded powers
Critics says law violates civil liberties.
Attorney General John Ashcroft asked Congress Thursday for expanded powers to hold suspected terrorists indefinitely before trials and to let him seek the death penalty or life imprisonment for any terrorist act.
Ashcroft told the House Judiciary Committee that the 2001 Patriot Act signed into law after the September 11, 2001 attacks should also be expanded to let prosecutors bring charges against anyone who supports or works with suspected terrorist groups as "material supporters."

Look closely at the picture. You see two men separated at birth and generation. Both claim illusionary enemies seeking to destroy America. In each case the solution is to destroy civil liberties. To take away protections, and freedoms that generations have fought so hard to secure and protect.
We stand idly by watching the parade, we wave our flags, and salute the men and women who protect our country. We think, "not here, it couldn't happen here." If you think that then you are deluded. In the more then two years since the Bush Administration gained power via judicial coup we have seen the attack on civil liberties grow. We have watched one of the most corrupt administrations in history let it's friends eat at the trough. Handing out free contracts to friends, and covering up the actions of their buddies. All the while hiding behind the veil of patriotism to claim the need for more police state powers.
Remember that this is an administration rife with oil and energy people. This is an administration that is led by people who sent Clinton a letter in 1997 telling him he should invade Iraq. It is an administration that believes it is our manifest destiny to bring peace, democracy and unregulated capitalism to the world, by any means needed...mj
