… I came across The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack on CD considerably marked down in price the other day. I bought it.
Although the two-disk widescreen DVD release of the Fellowship of the Ring is now available here, the four-disk DVD edition slated for release in November is more than worth waiting for.
The reason is the 30 to 40 minutes of extra footage, reportedly mostly set in Lothlorien, added to the movie. I saw LOTR: TFOTR four times and could have stood to see it a couple of times more. Peter Jackson’s film is such a masterpiece, such a remarkable rendition of a story that everyone has grown up with as an intimate part of their childhood, that the film onscreen felt like a place I wanted to live in, forever.
I do not particularly like soundtrack CDs, for the way they so unnaturally divorce movies’ sound from their visuals, but this CD is a stand-in better than nothing while I wait for the real prize—the extended edition DVD.
