Yet Another proprietary standard from Sony.
Here's an insight into why the world of digital convergence is so broken up into little pieces and islands. So here's Sony, refusing to go along with Microsoft and Intel - on their Media Center Edition standard.
They're gonna do "their own" Media PCs, utilizing their Giga Pocket PVR technology and provide some hacked together user interfaces (which their legendary for.......NOT.) How many times have we seen Sony go their own way, or Microsoft tweak a standard to make it "their own" or have Apple support something, but make the cabling incompatible (or trademark the term so no one else can use it) or watch Panasonic or Phillips sit out entire generations of innovative technology until the "dust settles"?
This is what's holding convergence back! It's time these folks start to understand that what CUSTOMERS want is compatibility. Plain and simple. No excuses.
Mediacentric Sony PC. Sony won't be jumping on the bandwagon to adopt Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition, opting instead to put together its own multimedia machine with similar PC/personal video recorder (PVR) capabilities (see Solutions).
