From The Thoughts To Think About Dept: Unsanity: the Joys of Commercial Programming. Unsanity on the Joys of Commercial Programming: “We have to release things at a steady pace to get noticed by general public—we cannot afford a one-page advertisements in thick magazines, or billboards on your local Main Street. For that reason, about the only way for us to market our things is release often.” [inessential.com] |
From The war-driving Dept.: Report: Wi-Fi Networks Too Risky. [Wired News] I'm considering buying myself a wireless hub. I'm also going to look into security practices to make it more secure. MAC control (a must, maybe WEP... and maybe (if I can figure it out) something over WEP. Some sort of SSH tunneling/proxy scheme, perhaps??? Must.. investigate...further.... |
No Cyborg Nation Without FDA's OK. [Wired News] A quote from one of the Jacobs (the family that was chipped in Florida earlier this year) (from the article): "It's frustrating," said Jacobs. "It makes you impatient because the chips can help so many lives if it's able to go forward. It's very frustrating." An earlier quote from the company (in the same article): "The chip has no medical purposes," ADS consultant Stephen B. Kaufman stated in an electronic missive to FDA officials on March 19. "It is for security or financial or other identification purposes only." Umm.. so how would this actually save lives? ....After a moment's thought... Scan an accident victim, then cross-reference that to a medical database somewhere (with allergies, etc). OK. But how do they deal with it now? There's got to be a better system then "shoot and pray". It would be interesting to know the number of accident victims that die due to reactions from medications. |
