The best thing, if you read the letter, is that they specifically site the GPL... and then their public spokesperson says that the letter is not about the GPL.

I guess they're just opposed to the principles of the GPL, and not the GPL itself? Ok... maybe I'll buy that. Maybe.

And, umm... people, there are other license types if you have qualms about the GPL

I'm of the opinion that public sponsorship of certain open source projects would be good. Apache being the obvious one... Perl or Python.. or maybe ipfw or ipchains. ipfw and IP Chains would make sense, especially if it was money ear-tagged "for national computer security".
