First Impressions of iSync: Favorable It was able to sync my laptop and my desktop and it did a decent job. I'd like to be able to control what gets synchronized (or, on error, what version of the changes are used - let me control which is right and wrong)... but overall it works nicely. |

UCSB Bans Windows NT/2000 in the Dorms [Slashdot] Windows 98 and ME are still allowed. (and XP, of course) That'll be fun for the technicians. ME is very weird -- some people it's as stable as a rock, but for some it causes very strange and complicated problems. At work, we all groan when someone says they are running ME. If it was up to me, WindowsME and 98 would be banned on this campus. XP Home too, as that scares me sometimes. (It sometimes does funny things like not working with built-into-the-motherboard ethernet cards) In other news, we've been having a lot of hacked machines. Usually Win2k boxes without an admin password. Most of these are becoming serving-bots on IRC. I think it's more 2K machines than XP machines. And a fair number of DHCP servers (improperly configured -- so of course they disrupt access for anybody unlucky enough to need an IP address while that server is online). Blame it on Internet Sharing. That's what we're dealing with anymore. h4x0r3d b0x3n, DHCP Servers some moron turned on, and people who think our DHCP server is trying to hack their firewall (and suddenly don't get an IP address). Yes. If I've learnt nothing at college these 4 years, at least I've validated my choice of OS. ":-)" |
