"Ben Silverman, the publisher of Dotcom Scoop, says the Rosen email is real, and part of a confidential internal memo that outlines the RIAA's legal strategy re Kazaa, Music City and Grokster." - Dave Winer [Scripting News] Realize you can't stop this, RIAA. You shut down Napster, now you have a 3 or 4 more. I bet if you go after those, 5 or 6 more will show up. Now, here's an interesting idea: what would happen if the P2P networks restrict bitrates of mp3s to say 98kbps. Close to CD quality sound -- but not as good. Those that want quality will go out and pay for it. Those that want the music can have it - it just won't sound as good. At the same time, work for reform in your organization: find a way to lower CD costs (even by a buck or two). Make sure your artists are getting what they deserve (royalties, etc). Maybe put more stuff on CDs -- interviews with the musician, making-of-the-album footage, B-tracks, bonus stuff like that, to play with on your computer. Do it in Quicktime so it's cross-platform. Add Extra Value to the CDs! Hint: I might be willing to pay a dollar or two MORE for interviews with the artist. But, if it goes much over $18, I'm not interested Check on the Janis Ian Interview on Slashdot for some more interesting reading |
